The PED (Pressure Equipment Directive) is a European directive concerning pressure equipment, which sets standards for the design and manufacture of pressure equipment with a maximum pressure greater than 0.5 bar.
Since many types of pressure equipment can be dangerous and result in human and material losses, such as steam boilers, pressurized hot water boilers, etc., manufacturers, representatives, importers, and distributors of pressure equipment must be aware of and comply with basic safety measures to minimize the chances of an accident occurring.
Pressure equipment can only be put into operation once tests have been carried out to confirm its safety in accordance with the technical requirements. In the Republic of Serbia, the Serbian Conformity Mark (3A) is the only mark confirming that a product placed on the domestic market or put into use complies with the requirements of Serbian technical regulations. If pressure equipment complies with the PED directive requirements, it is marked with the CE mark, which represents the only allowed product conformity mark in the EU.
The equipment must be designed and manufactured to ensure the health and safety of people, animals, and property during its use throughout its expected lifespan. Additionally, it must be designed to withstand loads that are appropriate for its intended use and in compliance with the specified working conditions.
The PED directive is part of the European Union’s program to remove technical barriers to trade.
