Product Certification with the CE Mark

CE Sertifikacija proizvoda CE znakom Inter Cert Srbija

The CE marking is not a quality label but a confirmation that a product complies with essential requirements for safety, health, property protection, and environmental protection, in accordance with applicable EU directives and regulations. This marking allows products to move freely within the EU single market without additional national restrictions or trade barriers.

The responsibility for affixing the CE marking lies with the manufacturer, but only after completing the conformity assessment procedure and issuing the EC Declaration of Conformity. This process must be carried out in line with all relevant directives and harmonized standards applicable to the specific product and includes detailed technical documentation as well as the application of appropriate testing methods.

Which products require CE marking?

CE marking applies to a wide range of products under EU legislation, including:

  • Machinery (Directive 2006/42/EC): industrial machinery, lifting equipment, interchangeable equipment, etc.

  • Low Voltage Equipment (Directive 2014/35/EU): devices within the voltage range of 50–1000V AC and 75–1500V DC.

  • Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) (Directive 2014/30/EU): all electrical and electronic devices sensitive to electromagnetic interference.

  • Pressure Equipment (Directive 2014/68/EU): vessels, pipelines, valves, and similar equipment.

  • Construction Products (EU Regulation 305/2011): doors, windows, heating equipment, insulation materials, concrete, glass, sanitary products, etc.

Key steps in the CE marking process

  • Product and technical documentation analysis

  • Identification of applicable EU directives and harmonized standards

  • Preparation of technical documentation

  • Conformity assessment procedure

  • Risk analysis (if applicable)

  • Drafting and signing the EC Declaration of Conformity

  • Affixing the CE marking on the product and related documentation

Depending on the type of product and the specific requirements of EU directives, the CE marking process may require the involvement of a Notified Body – an accredited EU-based organization authorized to carry out testing, inspection, and conformity assessment. Notified Bodies play a key role in verifying technical documentation, testing products, and confirming compliance with mandatory safety and harmonized standards. Without valid proof of conformity, products cannot legally bear the CE marking or be placed on the EU single market.

Technical support and regulatory compliance

Technical support in the CE marking process includes:

  • Aligning documentation with directive and standard requirements

  • Conducting product risk assessment

  • Preparing user documentation (installation, usage, maintenance manuals)

  • Communication with EU Notified Bodies

  • Drafting CE declarations and appropriate markings

The importance of CE marking for EU market access

CE marking is legally mandatory for all products falling under relevant EU directives and regulations, regardless of whether the manufacturer is based in the EU or outside it. Products that do not comply with these requirements cannot be legally placed on the EU market, nor can they be used in business or industrial environments where user safety, infrastructure protection, and environmental protection are critical. The CE marking confirms that a product has successfully passed all required conformity assessment procedures and complies with EU technical and safety standards.
