Energy passport for cars
The Regulation on Fuel Consumption Efficiency and CO2 Emissions Data for New Passenger Vehicles will be implemented in the Republic of Serbia starting December 24, 2022. This regulation mandates that all new cars sold in Serbia must display information about their fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions.
Issued under the Law on Climate Change, the regulation aims to establish a system for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in a cost-effective manner, contributing to global efforts to prevent climate change and mitigate its adverse environmental impacts.
Key obligations include:
- Fuel Efficiency Labeling: Sellers must display a label showing the vehicle’s fuel consumption and CO2 emissions at the point of sale, positioned no more than 50 cm from the vehicle’s front side window.
- Promotional Materials: All promotional materials must include official data on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions to comply with the Law on Climate Change. Misleading consumers with incorrect or unclear fuel consumption or emissions data is strictly prohibited.
- Data Submission: Vehicle suppliers are required to submit a list of all new vehicle models sold in Serbia, along with relevant fuel efficiency and emissions data, to the Traffic Safety Agency by December 31 each year.
- Public Information: The Traffic Safety Agency will publish:
- A list of all new passenger car models sold in Serbia, with their respective fuel consumption and CO2 emission data.
- A ranking of the top ten most fuel-efficient models based on CO2 emissions for each fuel type.
Providing accessible data on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions helps consumers make informed decisions that benefit both their finances and the environment when purchasing or leasing a new vehicle.
